COVID Vocabulary Update (2022)

In 2020, AllSet Learning released some leveled PDFs aimed at helping learners discuss the COVID pandemic at their own levels. It’s now April 2022, and China is experiencing a new omicron wave of COVID cases. We’ve noticed that certain COVID-related vocabulary words have become commonplace, and yet were not part of our original lists. So, time for an update!

Note that most of the material below skews intermediate.

VOCABULARY

  1. 疫情 (yìqíng) epidemic situation

  2. 隔离 (gélí) to isolate, to quarantine

  3. 健康码 (jiànkāng mǎ) health code

  4. 核酸检测 (hésuān jiǎncè) Nucleic acid testing

  5. 封 (fēng) to seal (off)

  6. 疫苗 (yìmiáo) vaccine

  7. 口罩 (kǒuzhào) face mask

  8. 传染 (chuánrǎn) to infect

  9. 消毒 (xiāodú) to disinfect, to sterilize

  10. 解封 (jiěfēng) to lift a ban

  11. 志愿者 (zhìyuàn zhě) volunteer

  12. 大白 (dàbái) epidemic prevention worker
