AllSet Learning Pinyin for iPad Released
AllSet Learning has just released AllSet Learning Pinyin, its first iOS app for learning pinyin, the most widely used romanization method for Mandarin Chinese. The new app is a pinyin chart designed to make use of the iPad's panning and zooming functionality. Audio for each syllable in all four tones is included, and the app is free. What sets this app apart from other pinyin charts is that it was designed to be extensible. The free app supports display of all the syllables of Mandarin Chinese in both Hanyu Pinyin as well as in the International Phonetic Alphabet. But you can also purchase additional character sets, including both the historically significant Wade-Giles romanization system and zhuyin (AKA "bo-po-mo-fo"), the system widely used in Taiwan. More addons are planned, so if there are any UTF-friendly phonetic representations of Mandarin Chinese you'd especially like to see, let us know!If you have an iPad, please try out the app and let us know what you think. We appreciate your reviews in the App Store.
