HSK-Mod Courses
Prepare for the HSK, but also practice speaking!
AllSet Learning has developed a modified version of a standard HSK course, optimized for fluency development.
How does our course differ from the average HSK course?
We provide extra speaking practice, all 1-on-1, in Chinese as much as possible
Lesson time is spent on Q&A and real human communication, not monotonous
exercises.
Good pronunciation is important for your long-term development, even if it
won’t score you points on the HSK. We don’t neglect it.
This course does not focus on characters; we recommend you self-study them
once your pinyin and pronunciation are strong.
Study Goals / 学习目标
Work through HSK vocabulary and grammar, building a strong overall foundation.
Emphasize proper word order and reinforce essential grammar patterns.
Expand range and depth of discussion topics, building toward intermediate-level proficiency.
Study Materials / 学习内容
Standard Course HSK Textbooks:
Beijing Language and Culture University Press Jiang Liping, 2014
This is the standard textbook series used to prepare for the HSK by schools and training centers all over the world. You won’t go wrong using this series to prep for the HSK, so purchase this book now [HSK 1, HSK 2, HSK 3].
That said, there are some things that can be done rather than following this textbook to the letter. That’s what the HSK-Mod is all about!
AllSet Learning Grammar Wiki:
https://resources.allsetlearning.com/chinese/grammar/
The AllSet Learning Chinese Grammar Wiki is our own comprehensive source of detailed, modular grammar points, the perfect grammar companion resource for every HSK-Mod Chinese course. This additional resource is the only extra material we need to cover all grammar points tested by the HSK.
More importantly, we’ll work hard on the grammar points you need to improve your spoken Mandarin and get you expressing yourself comfortably… even when you’re not taking a test!
AllSet Learning Pronunciation Wiki:
https://resources.allsetlearning.com/chinese/pronunciation/
No matter whether you’re a beginner-level, elementary-level, or even intermediate-level learner, chances are your pronunciation is not yet perfect. HSK textbooks do little to address this problem, so that’s where we come in.
The AllSet Learning Chinese Pronunciation Wiki is both a guide for new learners struggling with the intricacies of Mandarin pronunciation as well as a resource for pronunciation issues at all levels. It has clear explanations, visual aids, audio clips, and videos designed to make clear how to pronounce the difficult sounds of Mandarin Chinese (and no, we don’t just mean the tones!).
Read the wiki articles, listen to the audio, practice on your own, then practice with our teachers. You will feel a difference!
AllSet Learning Pronunciation Packs:
Developed through years of personalized face-to-face practice with clients, AllSet Learning has a pool of effective drills to help overcome any pronunciation struggles, from tricky consonant sounds to tone pairs. This practice covers more fundamental issues than any HSK textbook, and will be modified to fit each individual student’s actual pronunciation circumstances.
These materials, available for purchase online, are included in our HSK-Mod courses.
